News surfaced recently that the United Kingdom’s most prestigious shopping location, London’s Bond Street - not to be confused with high-grade sterling silver cufflink retailers, One Bond Street - is under threat. This threat, driven in large part, by soaring rent costs and mounting business rates, has seen one in four Bond Street businesses, including DKYN, Hugo Boss and Dolce & Gabanna, considering closing up their stores and moving elsewhere.
Whilst, sadly, this may result in customers having to say ‘goodbye’ to some of the stores belonging to their best-loved luxury brands – whether they offer elegant suits, sterling silver jewellery or otherwise - it may also mean that it will become more and more common to see high-end retailers conducting most of their business online. Fortunately for patrons, although there are, of course, certain drawbacks involved in near-exclusive online retail – an absence of face to face interaction between customer and staff, for example – there are also tremendous advantages to be gained by customers if this does become ever more commonplace.
One luxury brand that already operates predominantly online is One Bond Street, retailers of high-quality British themed sterling silver cufflinks, elegant bespoke bangles, stylish wooden lacquered jewellery boxes and more. That One Bond Street’s luxury range of British themed cufflinks and other stylish sterling silver jewellery and goods are marketed online means that One Bond Street is able to keep its overhead costs to a minimum: the need for both expensive retail premises and customer facing staff are, for instance, removed.
With these costs removed, customers who wish, for example, to purchase an elegant set of sterling silver cufflinks, a beautiful bespoke bangle or an exquisite wooden lacquered jewellery box from One Bond Street, are able to do so at much more affordable prices than if business were to be conducted in a physical store. In other words, One Bond Street saves money by being a luxury brand that sells their sterling silver cufflinks and bespoke bangles online – and this is passed on to their loyal and fortunate customers!
Retailing online also means that luxury brands like One Bond Street can invest more money and time into crafting and maintaining a top-notch customer experience on their e-commerce sites; meaning that the purchasing of sterling silver jewellery, sophisticated bespoke bangles and elegant wooden lacquered jewellery boxes can be a second-to-none experience for customers.
All of this means that, whilst it would, of course, be sad to see a number of well-known luxury shops close their doors to the public, customers may, in fact benefit greatly from high-end retailers, selling their products predominantly online. Indeed, just as One Bond Street’s loyal customers may already appreciate, online retail means that – whether purchasing stylish sterling silver cufflinks, elegant bangles, fashionable clothing, or otherwise – customers will no longer be burdened by expensive overheads and can also do most of their shopping from the comfort of their own homes!
